PIGS IN HIDING
by Arlene Dubanevich
Sometimes, while parenting, I ask myself:
What’s more important now? To be right or to be light?
MOTHERHOOD
by Pigs in Hiding
she: Mama, we’re playing hide and seek.
me: We are?
she: Yes, you and me.
me: Okay!
(she stands there)
me: You hide, and I find you.
she: Okay!
(she stands there)
me: Okay, go. Hide.
she: I’m hiding!
me: You’re standing in the same place.
she: No. I’m HIDING.
me: Hiding is when you…
(me googles definition of “hide”)
me: You get out of sight! So I can’t see you.
(she puts her hands over her eyes)
she: I’m hiding!
me: Okay.
she: Find me!
me: Okay.
she: Count!
me: Five. Six. Seven.
she: EIGHT!
(me laughs)
me: I love you so much.
she: Mama we’re playing hide and seek.
me: We are?
she: Yes, you and me.
me: Okay!
(she stands there)
me: You hide, and I find you.
she: I’m hiding!
